For the Autumn/Winter 2017 Ready-to-Wear collection, creative director John Galliano brings the purity of the Maison Margiela wardrobe center stage, reducing garments to their core.
Wardrobe classics are broken down to their essential structures in a broader take on the decortiqué technique defined in the SS17 Artisanal collection. Abstractions such as the t-shirt, the suit or the polo neck evoke shared associations, clarified through deconstruction and multiplied through reconstruction. Layers of cloth are peeled off and rebuilt, creating reinterpretations of universally familiar imagery.
"Iconography is founded in collective emotions created by the memories which unit us and give us hope" comments Maison Margiela.
