Founded in 1850 in Le Mans, Maison Drouault is one of the oldest Mancelles companies still in operation today. It was started by Mr Courboulay. In 1886, he teamed up with Constant Drouault, who returned from America with fresh ideas for expanding the use of feathers and down. The factory specialised in the trading of feathers and down to upholsterers, among others.
In 1929, Drouault established a production workshop in Paris, thereby enabling delivery to customers in the daytime, department stores included, and guaranteeing personalised service. In 1956, the 3rd generation of the Drouault family took over and developed the "Haute Couture" collection with 100% down products. It was 1974 when the first Drouault feather and down duvets arrived in France.
But Maison Drouault also works with synthetic materials and launched a line of ergonomic pillows in 1995. In 2004, the Dodo group took over Etablissements Drouault, investing heavily in order to modernise the business.
This was followed by the launch of the first Surconfort® feather mattress topper in 2009, which became one of the main attractions of the collection, and the construction of a new workshop for treating feathers and down at the factory in Le Mans, in 2011. That same year, an environmental policy was introduced, along with the installation of systems for collecting 40% of the water used in the feather washers and the inclusion of eco-responsible down.
