Grace Jones in signing session at Le Bon Marché

Muse, actress, top model, living music legend, pop diva : we met Grace Jones as she was giving her only signing session in France at Le Bon Marché on March 18, 2016, for her book "I'll never write my memoirs" (Séguier Editions).

As a fashion icon, what does Paris mean to you?

"I've never considered myself an icon; if people see me this way, it must be because of all the work I've done, which keeps influencing and inspiring generations. What does Paris mean to me? I felt home in Paris and I spent most of my training years here. Except Jamaica, this is where I lived the longest!"

Do you have a particular memory related to your Parisian moments that you could share with us?

"When I came to Paris, I didn't have a lot of money. With Jerry Hall, we went to a place called The Rag Queen: that was the ideal address to wear bold looks. We wore for instance items from the 30s, 40s that we mixed together. By the way, I noticed that some designers have then started to create clothes inspired by those we wear at that time!"

Who would you recommend your book to?

"Sometimes, I read stories about my life that seem clearly exaggerated compared to what the truth really is... My life is already crazy and unpredictable, but when it's displayed in the public arena, it's even more amplified. Other times, on the contrary, the story tells a bowdlerized version of my life. This is why I thought there was no better way to tell the stories of my life than doing it myself in a book!"
